Agent 284 – Homestyle Cuisine, Snappy Cocktails and Exclusive Charm. A Recipe for Happiness in the Heart of Collingwoord
Occupying the heritage-listed Old Comarty’s building on the corner of Smith and Otter Street, Agent 284 is Collingwood’s smart cool kid on the block, offering homestyle modern Australian cuisine and exotic cocktails within a charming old world environment.
Celebrating a one year anniversary since the restaurant/cocktail bar opened in May 2012, the rustic décor features exposed brick, leather and wood furnishings and metal birdcage light fixtures with stately library wallpaper covering the walls and doors.
The restaurant on the ground floor offers seating for 56 including street dining, with a New York Style “Cocktail Gallery” bar upstairs (complete with brass tacked club chairs and chrome lighting) and private “Birdcage” room for intimate get-togethers (up to 15 pax). The basement function or “Gallery Room” space cum Speakeasy (secret entrance included), features rounded leather banquettes, wood block bar, gilded frames for screen projections and a performance stage. A hidden gem for any special event (up to 120 pax).
Agent 284 prides itself on a” keep it simple, keep it satisfying and keep it affordable” menu created by Owner Daniel Lemura and Head Chef Roger Andre Beu, with all items made on premise from scratch and sourced locally.
“Great café – the best coffee I had since moving to Collingwood!”
– Susan, from Collingwood
A fully licensed bar complete with a large variety of local microbrews and ciders (not an imported beer in sight), along with a range of one-of-a-kind exotic specialty cocktails like “The Ginger Lily”, “Agent 86” and “Jack and the Beekeeper” featuring Tennessee honey liquor are all tempting tipples for any adventurous drinker looking for a new journey to imbibe in.
Owner and designer Dan Lemura has taken the plunge to create his own venue in Agent 284. Infused with his personal vision for customer service, decor and menu excellence, Dan brings over a decade of experience in the hospitality business, having come from his role as GM at The Longroom as well as extensive bar management roles at Crown Casino (Mercury, Heat, Velvet, Diamond, and Fusion). Dan’s special affinity for cocktails and mixology has also seen him participate in numerous cocktail competitions, including the Chartreuse National Mixability Competition in which he was the Victorian Finalist.
